Youth kills father after denied money for leisure

In a shocking incident, a youth battered his father to death in the Varanasi district after the latter refused to give him money for an outing.

According to police sources, the youth, identified as Rajkumar Saroj, a resident of Baragaon Tkari Kala, hit his 55-year-old father Ramji Saroj repeatedly with sticks after being denied money late on Saturday night.

The mother of the youth tried to intervene and pleaded with her son to spare his father but to no avail. Ramji Saroj died on the spot, sources said.

Police said that Rajkumar wanted to live separately and had been pressurizing his father to give him his share of land and other properties but the father did not oblige him.

On Saturday, Rajkumar asked his father to give him some money as he wanted to go out but the latter refused.

The father and son had an altercation after which the latter picked up a lathi and started to hit his father.

Sources said that Rajkumar dumped his father’s body in a room filled with hay and then set it afire. The neighbours and other residents of the village rushed to the spot after seeing the smoke billowing from the house only to find that Rajkumar had set the room on fire in a bid to burn the body of his father.

The locals informed the cops who managed to extinguish the fire with the help of other residents but by then 90 percent body of Ramji Saroj had already been burnt.

Rajkumar, who managed to flee from the spot, was absconding and a hunt has been launched to nab him, the police said.

The neighbours said that no one came to the rescue of the old man as the people thought that it was a minor altercation.
