Internet remained suspended in four violence-hit districts of Haryana following large-scale clashes in Nuh during a religious procession even as an uneasy calm prevailed in the violence-torn districts with police and paramilitary forces being deployed in strength to maintain order.

Six people, including two home guard jawans, had been killed in the violence, which had spread to the nearby districts of Faridabad, Palwal, and Gurugram.

A mob had set a mosque on fire in Sector 57 in Gurugram where a man was also allegedly stabbed to death by the mob.

Violence had flared up at Nuh on Monday when a religious procession came under heavy stone pelting. More than a dozen cops were also injured in the stone pelting. Dozens of vehicles were set on fire by the rampaging mobs.

Police said that the internet would remain suspended till the night of August five and that a decision to resume the services would be taken after reviewing the situation later.

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khatter appealed for peace and said that it was not possible for the police to ensure the safety of every individual.

Khatter also said that the trouble mongers would be identified and acted against sternly. ‘’The rioters will have to pay for the damages caused to the public properties….we are not going to spare anyone who is found guilty of causing the violence,’’ he added.

Police sources said that so far around 125 people had been arrested in connection with the violence. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been formed to investigate the violence.

A report from Gurugram said that several families of a particular community had fled from the city following the killing of a youth on Tuesday. Reports also said that the migrant families had left for their native towns.
