Four get lifer in gang rape case

A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district sentenced four persons to life imprisonment in a case of gang rape of a dalit girl six years ago.

Special additional session magistrate Baburam pronounced the punishment after finding the accused persons guilty under POCSO Act and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

He also imposed a fine of Rs 24 thousand on each of the accused persons, identified as Wasim, Nadeem, Asif and Arif.

According to the prosecution, the four accused persons had abducted the victim from her house and took her to a secluded house nearby where they took turns to rape her.

The accused also threatened the victim of dire consequences if she reported the matter to her parents or the police, the prosecution had contended.

A case was later registered and the accused persons were arrested.

The prosecution said that the police did a commendable job in collecting solid evidences against the accused persons.
