Several new records were made in Sunday’s Asia Cup final match between India and Sri Lanka in which the host team was routed by the Indians by ten wickets.

The new records made at the match held at R Premadasa stadium in Colombo were-

1. The bowling performance by Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj, who claimed 6 wickets for 21 runs in seven overs, was the best ever by any Indian bowler in the history of Asia Cup. Earlier Arshad Ayub had claimed 5 for 21 against Pakistan in 1988.

2. Siraj’s performance was also the best against Sri Lanka. Earlier in 1990, Paksitani pacer Waqar Yunus had taken 6 for 26 against the Lankans at Sharjah.

3. Mohammed Siraj also became the first Indian bowler to claim 4 wickets in one over.

4. Sri Lanka made 50 runs in the match. It was the smallest total in any final match.

5. It was also India’s fastest win. India won the match in only 6.1 overs.

6. It was the second time that India registered a win by 10 wickets. Earlier India had defeated Zimbabwe in 1997 Tri-Series when it chased a target to 197 runs without losing any wicket.

7. Sunday’s final was the smallest between the two teams in terms of bowls bowled. Only 129 balls were bowled in the Asia Cup final.

8. India registered ten wicket victory for the 10th time and thus equalled the world record made by the West Indies, which had also registered ten wicket wins ten times.

9. It was also the smallest score by any team against India.
