India thrash Sri Lanka by ten wickets to lift Asia Cup
Team India returned to its winning streak and won the Asia Cup for the eighth time. India achieved the target of 51 runs in just 37 balls without losing any wicket.
Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj went through the Sri Lankan team claiming six wickets and bowling them out for a paltry 50 runs, which was their lowest against India, in the Asia Cup final at R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo before a packed Sunday crowd.
Team India returned to its winning streak and won the Asia Cup for the eighth time. India achieved the target of 51 runs in just 37 balls without losing any wicket.
This is India's biggest win in terms of balls left at the end of the match. The team won with 263 balls remaining. Before this, India had defeated Kenya in 2001 with 231 balls remaining.
Sri Lanka won the toss and electing to bat on a good batting track. But the entire team was all out for a meagre 50 runs in 15.2 overs. In reply India scored 51 runs in 6.1 overs. India with this win also improved its record of chasing the target by in minimum number of balls.
Mohammed Siraj was adjudged Man of the Match and received a prize money of Rs four lakh ($5,000). Siraj donated this amount to the ground staff team.
Asian Cricket Council also gave Rs40 lakh ($50 thousand) to the ground staff team because of their hard work during the match.
Heroes of the match:
Mohammed Siraj: Mohammed Siraj bowled brilliantly in the first spell. In his first 16 balls, he sent back six Sri Lankan batsmen to the pavilion.
Hardik Pandya: Hardik Pandya played an important role in reducing the Sri Lankan team to 50 runs. He took three wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah: Jasprit Bumrah opened the account of Sri Lanka's wickets by dismissing Kusal Perera on the third ball of the first over. Thereafter the wickets fell at regular intervals.
This was Sri Lanka’s smallest total against team India.
