After opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 80 runs in 57 balls, Afghanistan pulled off the biggest upset of this World Cup by defeating defending champions England by 69 runs.

Afghan players, who endured the horrors of war for a long time and learned the art of cricket in their 'second home' India apart from relief camps, wrote the golden page of their cricket history and more than 25,000 people were witness to their feat at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The Afghanistan team, which came here after losing the first two matches, proved England superior in both batting and bowling.

Afghanistan scored 284 runs in 49.5 overs when sent to bat first. In reply, the England team was out for 215 runs in 40.3 overs. As soon as Rashid Khan bowled Mark Wood, it was clear on the faces of the Afghan cricketers jumping with joy how much this victory means for them and their country.

Except Harry Brook (66 runs in 61 balls), no batsman could survive for long for England. Mujibur, who scored 28 runs in the first 16 balls for Afghanistan, also showed his brilliance in bowling and took three wickets. Experienced spinner Mohammad Nabi took two wickets for 16 runs in six overs.

Reigning champion England captain Jos Buttler, who suffered an upset in the World Cup match at the hands of Afghanistan, admitted that his team is not playing at the level it should be playing at. Afghanistan created the biggest upset in this World Cup on Sunday by defeating England by 64 runs. After the defeat, Butler said, “It is disappointing.” After winning the toss, we chose to bowl but could not perform as per expectations. Afghanistan proved us superior in every department.

He said, “We are not playing at the level we should be playing at.” It was disappointing with both bat and ball. Afghanistan has an excellent bowling attack and there was no dew on the field as we expected. He said, "The ball was getting uneven bounce. He bowled the ball on the stumps and we could not play well. Such a defeat hurts and should also hurt, but we will overcome it and bounce back.
