In a strategic move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly mulling over the introduction of a T10 format cricket league, with a tentative launch window set between September and October next year. This development surfaces amidst the thriving success of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a 20-over cricket league that has witnessed a surge in viewership and valuation.

The BCCI's secretary, Jay Shah, is said to be actively involved in devising the blueprint for this proposed T10 cricket league. The move follows the recent revelation that the IPL has achieved the coveted status of a decacorn, boasting a valuation of approximately $10.7 billion, as indicated by a report from Brand Finance.

According to sources cited in a Moneycontrol report, the franchises currently possess the right to reject any new model proposed by the BCCI, mirroring the structure of the IPL. Factors crucial to the success of this potential league include establishing an age bracket to avoid encroaching on the popularity of the IPL and ensuring the active participation of top white-ball cricketers.

The report also highlights the financial considerations for cricket boards globally, emphasizing that bilateral series are no longer generating substantial revenue. The introduction of a new series, coupled with a potential revenue-sharing model, could provide financial relief for these cricket boards. However, concerns arise regarding the potential impact on the traditional 50-over format.

While the need for immediate financial infusion may not be pressing for India, recent reports suggest that Saudi Arabia is exploring investment opportunities in the IPL. The proposed investment, reaching up to $5 billion, aims to support the league's expansion into other countries, akin to the English Premier League or the European Champions League.

Despite these speculations, no official statement regarding the new T10 league has been released by the BCCI, leaving cricket enthusiasts and stakeholders eagerly awaiting further developments.
