CWG 2018: Mary Kom wins Gold; Women hockey team loses

Gold Coast (Australia): Star Indian boxer M.C. Mary Kom won gold in the women's 48 kilogram category at the 21st Commonwealth Games, CWG 2018, here on Saturday while, the Women's hockey team had to suffer a 0-6 thrashing to England in the play-off for the bronze medal in the women's hockey competition.

It could be termed as the mixed day for the Indian contingent at the CWG as Mary defeated Kristina O'Hara of Northern Ireland by a unanimous 5:0 verdict to take the title whereas, the Indian female hockey team, unfortunately, had to come back empty handed.

It is to be mentioned that, in an effort to clinch the bronze title, Sophie Bray (44th, 49th, 56th minutes) scored a hat-trick late in the match while Hollie Pearne-Webb (20th), Laura Unsworth (55th) and skipper Alexandra Danson (57th) got the other goals.

Wrestler Sumit wins 125kg title:

Indian wrestler Sumit won the gold medal in the men's 125 kilogram freestyle category

Sumit defeated Cameroon's Claude Kouamen Mbianga, Korey Jarvis of Canada and Tayyab Raza of Pakistan in the Nordic (round robin) system to emerge champion.
