Veteran singer Pankaj Udas passes away at 72

Pankaj Udhas's daughter Nayaab Udhas, while sharing the sad news of her father's demise on her Instagram account, wrote, "With a heavy heart and great sadness, we have to inform all of you that due to prolonged illness, Padmashree Pankaj Udhas will pass away on 26th February 2024".

Veteran Pankaj Udas who gave his voice to a very famous song "Na Kajre ki Dhaar, Na Motiyon ke haar" passed away at the age of 72 on Monday. Famous singer and friend of Pankaj Udhas, Anup Jalota said that Pankaj Udhas had pancreas cancer and he knew this for 4 months.

Pankaj Udhas's daughter Nayaab Udhas, while sharing the sad news of her father's demise on her Instagram account, wrote, "With a heavy heart and great sadness, we have to inform all of you that due to prolonged illness, Padmashree Pankaj Udhas will pass away on 26th February 2024".

He was admitted to the Breach Candy hospital where he took his last breath.

The veteran singer was born on 17th May 1951. Pankaj Udhas has received many awards and honors. He was awarded Padmashree by the Government of India in the year 2006. Apart from this, he has also been given Maharashtra Gaurav Award (2012) by the Government of Maharashtra.

He has also been given the Best Playback Singer Award for the song "Chithi Aayi Hai" from the film Naam. He has also been awarded the National Award for this song.

While sharing a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief on Pankaj's demise and wrote "There were different emotions in his singing and his ghazals spoke directly to the soul. He was a beacon of Indian music, whose tunes were passed down through generations. I remember various conversations I had with him over the last few years."

Many other celebrities like Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan and Sonu Nigam have also expressed grief over the news of his demise.

Famous playback singer and music director Vishal Dadlani has also expressed his grief over the demise of Pankaj Udhas. The musician has paid tribute to the late singer by sharing a photo on his Instagram story.
