Former Vice Chairman-MD of Novartis India Ranjit Sahni passes away

Ranjit Sawhney, former vice chairman and managing director of Novartis India, has passed away at the age of 73. He was also the chairman of JB Pharmaceuticals.

According to Sahni's LinkedIn profile, he did mechanical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Apart from this, he also did MBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. He worked as Chairman and Managing Director of Novartis India Limited from 2001 to 2018.

Sahni started his career with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in India. Then he held the post of General Manager in ICI of Zeneca in UK. There he oversaw the company's petrochemicals and plastics division's operations in Asia Pacific and Latin America.

After this, before joining Novartis India Limited in 1997, Sawhney held the position of CEO at Roche Products Limited. Sawhney was the President Emeritus of the Pharmaceutical Producers Organization of India.

Apart from this, he was also the President of Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce India. He had played many roles including working on the Advisory Council of HSPH India Research Centre.

Sahni was the chairman of JB Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals. Apart from this, he also held the post of director on the boards of Hikal Limited and Ambuja Cements Limited.
