Famous Urdu poet Munawwar Rana is no more.

According to the information, he breathed his last at the age of 71. He was undergoing treatment for some time at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow.

Munawwar Rana was also honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award. However, expressing his displeasure with the government, he had announced to return his award. Munawwar Rana had been ill for a long time. He had throat cancer.

His daughter Somaiya told that Rana will be laid to rest in Lucknow on Monday as per his will. Rana is survived by his wife, five daughters and a son.

Rana's son Tabrez Rana said, “He was hospitalized for several days due to illness. He was first admitted to Medanta in Lucknow and then to SGPGI, where he breathed his last at around 11 pm on Sunday night.

Rana was born on November 26, 1952 in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh. He is known for his important contribution to Urdu literature. In 2014, he was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award for the poem 'Shahdaba'. His poetry used to be based on very simple words, which made him popular among the common people.

Many renowned personalities have expressed grief over the demise of Munawwar Rana. Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav has expressed grief by tweeting.

He was honored with many honors and awards, including the Amir Khusro Award, Mir Taqi Mir Award, Ghalib Award, Dr. Zakir Hussain Award and Saraswati Samaj Award, among others.

The poem "Maa" by Munawwar Rana, who is counted among the most famous poets of India, has a different place in the world of Urdu literature. There are people all over the world who like the poetry of Rana, a famous personality of Urdu poetry.

Rana's presence on the stages was very special. No ‘Mushaira’ was complete without his poetry on mother in stage events. At the same time, the subjects like the suffering of daughters and Muhajir in his works greatly influenced the people.
