Walmart and IIT Madras Collaborate to Empower MSMEs through Tech Excellence Center

In a strategic partnership, Walmart Global Tech (WGT) and IIT Madras have established the Walmart Center for Tech Excellence, aiming to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the manufacturing and retail sectors. The center's primary focus is to develop innovative solutions leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digitization, fostering operational efficiency and profitability for MSMEs.

According to a press release from IIT Madras, the newly inaugurated center will contribute to the creation of cutting-edge solutions accessible to a broad audience. It emphasizes the development of an open-sourced, domain-agnostic platform, particularly focusing on engineering analytics solutions.

Suresh Kumar, Global CTO and CDO at Walmart Inc., expressed the organization's commitment to using technology to serve people. He highlighted the importance of the center in driving innovation in AI and making a positive impact on the MSME community in India. Kumar, an alumnus of IIT Madras, conveyed his excitement and confidence in the center's potential.

Prof V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, emphasized the significance of MSME growth for economic prosperity. He noted that IIT Madras has initiated various projects to support MSMEs, including energy consumption reduction efforts. The research conducted through the Walmart Center for Tech Excellence is expected to provide valuable insights and solutions beneficial to MSMEs.
