India's Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services were launched in Sri Lanka and Mauritius on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth also participated in this program through video conferencing. The launch of Indian services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius comes against the backdrop of India's growing bilateral economic ties with both the countries.

With this, UPI Transactions service will be available for Indian citizens traveling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius as well as citizens of these countries traveling to India. Along with this, RuPay cards were also launched in Mauritius today. With the expansion of RuPay service , Mauritian banks will be able to issue RuPay cards and use them for settlements in both India and Mauritius.

On the launch of UPI services in both the countries, Prime Minister Modi said, today is a special day for the three friendly countries of the Indian Ocean region. UPI is fulfilling the new responsibility of uniting partners with India. I believe That Sri Lanka and Mauritius will benefit from the UPI system.

In this way, a week after the launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in France, Sri Lanka and Mauritius have joined the list of countries adopting the Indian Digital Payment System. Currently, the countries in the world where UPI payment system is being used include Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Bhutan, Oman, Japan, Malaysia.
