Chinese mobile companies have been accused tax evasion to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore in GST and country line charges.

The government has so far recovered only Rs 1,629.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology gave this information on the basis of data from 2017-18 to date.

He also claimed the Chinese mobile company 'Oppo' was top in the list with alleged tax evasion of Rs5,086 crore including charges of GST Rs 683 crore and line charges Rs 4,403 crore.

Vivo also allegedly evaded tax of Rs 2,923.25 crore and Xiaomi Rs 851.14 crore.

He said that the total amount recovered from Oppo was Rs1,214 crore, from Vivo Rs 168 crore and from Xiaomi Rs92.8 crore.

The total turn-over of the Chinese mobile companies was Rs1.05 lakh crore in 2021-22.

These companies had provided direct employment to 75 thousand people and indirect employment to 80 thousand.
