RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das named governor of the year

RBI governor Shaktikanta Das was awarded the Governor of the Year by the Central Banking in London.

Central Banking, which is an international economic research journal, honoured Das with the prestigious award in recognition of his handling of the Indian economy during the times of crisis.

The organisers said that Das “cemented critical reforms, overseen world-leading payments innovation and steered India through difficult times with a steady hand and well crafted turn of phrase’’.

The organisers appreciated him and said that he took good decisions in the favour of India. He dealt with critical challenges and ensured smooth management. During the pandemic, Innovative payment system and development oriented measurement was sagacity handled by him.

He was recommended in March 2023 by the publication for this award. Das was posted as a governor in December, 2018.

This was the second time when an Indian governor honoured with this title. Raghuram Rajan was the first person in 2015.
