Two Indian-American scientists have been honoured with America’s highest scientific award.

US President Joe Biden has honoured two Indian American scientists with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation at the White House.

Two Indian-Americans – Ashok Gadgil and Subra Suresh – were awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation and the National Medal of Science.

The scientists, who were honoured at the event have made discoveries that have enabled life-saving medical treatments, helped fight the opioid epidemic, improved food security, and more.

The White House said, "Today, the President is honoring several Americans with the National Medal of Science and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation who have made exemplary achievements in science, technology, and innovation for the good of our nation." The National Medal of Science is the nation's highest scientific honor, established by the US Congress in 1959 and administered by the US National Science Foundation.

It said in a statement, "He is worthy of special recognition by the President of the United States for his outstanding contributions to biology, computer science, educational science, engineering, geology, mathematical and physical sciences, and social, behavioral and economic sciences while serving are provided to individuals." It says, "Those who earn these awards transcend boundaries and embody the promise of America."
