A surprising underwater photo of a Swedish photographer has earned him this year's Underwater Photographer of the Year 2024.

This photographer named Alex Dawson shared about his big win on Instagram and said that he is 'honored to receive the award.' Swedish photographer Alex Dawson has been awarded Underwater Photographer of the Year 2024 for his photograph 'Whale Bones'. The photo shows a diver discovering the skeleton of a minke whale under the Greenland ice sheet.

Alex Mustard, who chairs the awards judging panel, told the BBC that Whale Bones was photographed in the most extreme conditions possible, with a breath-holding diver descending beneath the Greenland ice sheet to view the bodies. The diver's suit and torch give a 'visiting alien' feel. This picture tells a complete story in itself.

Dawson posted about his big win on Instagram. In his post he wrote, "I am honored to be awarded the Underwater Photographer of the Year 2024 award in London this weekend with my winning photo 'Whale Bones'. "This photo was submitted in the wide angle category with freediving mode."

Since being shared, it has received more than 2,900 likes and many comments. Many people commented to congratulate Alex Dawson.

One person wrote: "Amazing, congratulations! lol!" Another wrote: "Great image. Absolutely worth it." A third commented. "Fantastic. Congratulations Alex! You really deserve this honor."
