Dhordo, a small village in Kutch in India, has been selected in the list of 54 best tourist villages in the world.

The village in Kutch district of Gujarat, has been included in the list of the world's best tourist villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This is the only village in India in this list.

According to the statement of the organization, this initiative of respecting villages, launched in 2021, is part of the Rural Development Tourism Program of UNWTO. The program encourages the processes of promoting tourism in rural areas, fighting population decline, innovative innovation and value chain integration through tourism. This year, the maximum number of villages in the UNWTO list, 4 each, are from Japan, China, Portugal and Peru.

In a statement released on its official website, the organization said that entries from 260 villages from all over the world were received for this year's list. Of these, 54 villages were selected. This honor is given to those villages which are leading in the development of rural areas, preservation of landscapes and cultural diversity, food traditions along with local values.

Dhordo village, about 86 kilometers away from Bhuj on the India-Pakistan border, has a population of only around one thousand. This village is famous for organizing 'Ran Utsav' annually. The three-month long festival will begin in November. Kutch is called 'white desert' due to the production of salt. In this desert, during Rann Utsav, Dhordo village remains buzzing with tourists from India and abroad.

Dhordo recently hosted the meeting of the G-20's tourism group during India's presidency of the G-20. On Dhordo being selected as the best tourist village, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal wrote in a post on X, 'When are you booking your trip to Dhordo? Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the Rann Utsav starting next month in the tent city of this village.
