The Central Government has announced to honor Lal Krishna Advani with the highest civilian honor 'Bharat Ratna'.

People who have made extraordinary contributions to the country in the fields of art, literature, science, social service and sports are awarded 'Bharat Ratna'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness over Advani being awarded the highest civilian honor 'Bharat Ratna'.

Lal Krishna Advani has been MP from Lok Sabha 5 times and Rajya Sabha 4 times. Lal Krishna Advani has also been the President of Bharatiya Janata Party thrice. He was also the Deputy Prime Minister of the country from 2002 to 2004.

Prime Minister Modi wrote in a social media post on this occasion, "I am very happy to inform that Shri Lal Krishna Advani ji will be honored with Bharat Ratna. I spoke to him and congratulated him on being honored with this honour.

One of the most respected politicians of our times, his contribution to the development of India is unforgettable. His life spanned from working at the grassroots level to serving the country as our Deputy Prime Minister. He served as our Home Minister and Minister of Information & Broadcasting. Modi said that Advani also made his mark as a minister. His parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary and full of rich insights.

Advani, who was considered to be one of the tallest BJP leaders, had undertaken a ‘Rath Yatra’ in 1990 to spearhead the Ram Temple agitation. The Rath Yatra had succeeded in galvanising the BJP workers in the country and brought the party to the centre stage.
