Powerful quake rocks El Salvador, Nicaragua; Tsunami warning issued

San Salvador: El Salvador and Nicaragua on Thursday were rocked with a powerful earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale.

The Environment and Natural Resources Ministry here said that no loss of lives or injuries have been reported.

Office personnel and residents immediately evacuated the respective buildings as a preventive measure against possible building collapses after the tremors were felt all over El Selvador.

The epicentre of quake was located off the coast of the city of Usulutan, 100 kilometres (62 miles) from the Salvadoran capital.

Salvadoran authorities, however, have issued a tsunami alert as a precaution. Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega declared a national emergency to tackle disasters.
