Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resigned from his post, following Pakistan Supreme Court's order to disqualify him as the PM of the country.
The step came after the Pakistan SC delivered a historic ruling, ordering the removal of Sharif, on Friday, in Panama Paper Leak case.
According to the political analysts, the decision was likely to shift the country’s tumultuous political balance and deal a serious blow to the legacy of a man who helped define the past generation of Pakistani politics.
Sharif was serving his third term in office and his removal came a year before his term was to end.
After the verdict the governing political party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, is bound to choose an interim prime minister to replace Sharif until the next general election, which is scheduled for mid-2018.
