Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia): An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 struck the Northern Sumatra, Southwest of Bijnai in Indonesia at 0842 hours on Monday. No causalities and loss of property were reported.
According to Malaysian Meteorological Department, "The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres in Northern Sumatra in Indonesia."
The tremors were also felt in Peninsular Malaysia.
There was traffic chaos on the streets, people ran out of buildings and power blackouts hit some areas.

It may be recalled that at least one woman had been killed and more than six were injured, earlier, when an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale rocked Tripura on January 4, 2017.
