Earthquake of 6.6 magnitude hits Alaska, no casualties

San Francisco: An earthquake of 6.6 magnitude hit a town in the US state of Alaska on Monday. Though, no immediate report of injury or damage from the quake was experienced.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center said the quake took place at 0900 hour (local time) at depth of 1.6 kilometre.

  • The earthquake hit about 145 kilometres west of Adak, a town located on Adak Island in Alaska.
  • Alaska experienced four tremors in the previous 48 hours.

According to the 2010 US census, Adak of the Aleutians West Census Area, which is the town closest to the epicentre, had a population of 326.
