There has been tension in the relations between India and Canada for some time. In such a situation, PM Modi's meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was very special. Justin Trudeau on Saturday said there is a commitment to work together with India to deal with some "very important issues" after his meeting with Prime Minister Modi on the sidelines of the G7 summit.

"I won't go into the details of this important, sensitive issue that we need to work on further. But it is a commitment to work together to deal with some very important issues in the times to come," Trudeau told the media at the conclusion of the G7 summit. India has been saying that the main issue between the two countries is that Canada is providing space to pro-Khalistan elements operating from its territory. India has repeatedly conveyed its "deep concerns" to Canada and New Delhi expects Ottawa to take strong action against those elements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni reviewed the progress of the bilateral strategic partnership and agreed to strengthen cooperation in global forums and multilateral proposals, including the India-West Asia-Europe Economic Corridor. The two leaders met on Friday at the end of PM Modi's one-day visit to Apulia in southern Italy. During this, Modi thanked the Prime Minister of Italy for inviting him to the G7 summit.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release about the meeting that the leaders expressed commitment to fulfill their shared vision for an open and free Indo-Pacific region and also discussed the India-West Asia-Europe Economic Corridor. Amid China's aggressive activities in the region, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "Both the leaders look forward to joint activities to be implemented under the prepared framework to fulfill their shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the G-7 summit in Apulia, Italy. During this, the Prime Minister thanked Prime Minister Kishida for the congratulations given on assuming office for the third consecutive time. He confirmed that bilateral relations with Japan will continue to get priority in his third term as well. The two leaders noted that the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership is in its 10th year and expressed satisfaction at the progress made in bilateral relations. The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen mutual cooperation, connect new and emerging areas and strengthen B2B and P2P cooperation.
