Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Thursday that officials were accountable for the projects related to their respective departments and warned against negligence in ensuring timely completion of works.

In a meeting with additional chief secretary and principal secretary-rank officials from key departments two days after the Lok Sabha election results were declared, the CM reviewed the status of various schemes in the state.

He directed the officials to maintain coordination with the ministers concerned and that matters related to the common man should not be kept pending unnecessarily.

A government release quoted him saying, “The Chief Minister instructed the officials that the works related to the common people should be done within the stipulated time frame. Ignoring any work will not be tolerated at all.”

The officials were also told to immediately send requisitions to the selection commissions concerned from all departments where vacancies and appointments are to be made. The rules should be examined thoroughly before sending requisitions for appointments, he added.

“Contact the selection commissions, do not send erroneous applications and fix a time limit for the selection process,” he said.

The CM also reminded the officials that the first quarter of the financial year 2024-25 was ending soon and they should ensure their departments spend the funds provided in the current budget appropriately. The Finance Department should review the allocation and expenditure department-wise, he said.

The officials were directed to speed up Goods and Service Tax (GST) collection and allocate targets to their field staff besides ensuring no tax evasion takes place.

The Energy Department was directed against imposing unnecessary power cuts amid an intense heatwave — be it villages or cities. Issues such as burnt transformers, fallen wires, and tripping should be promptly addressed without delay, he added.

The officials must be available to address calls and any disputes should be resolved immediately, the CM said.

The officials were also asked to enforce ban on single-use plastic and to see the Safe City Project is completed timely. The CM instructed the officials to ensure adequate drinking water supply in all urban areas.

Besides, the Urban Development Department was asked to find a permanent solution to the street dog issue.

“Since sub-minerals like sand, morang, and ballast are directly related to the common man, mining works should be suspended during the rainy season,” he further said.

The state, Adityanath claimed, will directly benefit from the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor. Under the project, two nodes are to be developed in Agra and Prayagraj in UP.
