After Delhi-NCR, Meerut bans sale of firecrackers till November 1

Meerut: After the Supreme Court order to ensure a pollution-free Diwali in Delhi and National Capital Region (NRC), the Meerut district administration also imposed a ban on sale of firecrackers till November 1.

The district administration in an official release announced that it will not issue any licenses for installing shops of firecrackers till November 1.

The order was passed by Additional District Magistrate Mukesh Chandra and City Magistrate MP Singh.

Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court had ordered a ban on sale of firecrackers across Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR). The decision was taken keeping in view the extensive air pollution due to the use of firecrackers.

The key facts related to Meerut district administration's order:

  • All the Police Station In-charges, SDMs and ACM have been ordered to ensure that firecrackers are not sold in their regions.
  • ADM City said that the Supreme Court ordered will be followed without any compromise.
  • All the permanent and temporary firecracker-selling licenses issued earlier have been put on hold till November 1.
  • All the license-holding firecracker-sellers will have to give it in writing that no stock will be sold till November 1.
