Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer penned a letter to Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar on Saturday directing him to cover the word 'Samajwadi' from ambulances of state government's 'Samajwadi Ambulance Seva' scheme.

The EC took the decision after receiving a complaint regarding the commutation of the ambulances across the state with 'Samajwadi' written on them, which is a violating of Model Code of Conduct.

Earlier, the EC had imposed a temporary ban on distribution of bags and laptops with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's photo printed on it. The advance booking of the Samajwadi Smartphone has also been provisionally suspended.

It may be mentioned that earlier during 2012 UP Assembly elections, the EC had ordered to cover the monuments of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati and her party symbol 'elephant' erected in Lucknow and Noida.
