New Delhi: As the opposition has moved 'no confidence motion' in the Parliament against the ruling BJP government, the entire country is busy talking about the issue.

The first ever no confidence motion was introduced in March 1782. During the American war, when British Army lost in York Town, the British Parliament voted against the then ministers, saying that they did not trust them anymore.
Subsequently, Prime Minister Lord North was asked to submit his resignation to King George III.
Eleven Prime Ministers in the United Kingdom have been asked to resign owing to a no confidence motion.

After 1925, only James Callaghan has faced a no confidence motion. In 1979, his government had collapsed after falling short by just one vote. It led to general elections in Britain and Margaret Thatcher was elected the new PM.
Italy, Israel and Japan also observed no confidence motions between 1950 and 1990.
In the year 2008, the Prime Minister of Canada's minority government, Stephen Harper had requested the Canadian Governor General Michael Jean to defer the Canadian parliament. His request was accepted and this move allowed extra time to PM for proving majority in the Parliament after the Opposition moved the no confidence motion.
