Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday said the new US missile defence station in Romania was aimed at weakening his country’s nuclear power and meant to increase its defence expenditure.

“This is definitely not a defence system. In fact, it’s a part of United States’ nuclear strategic potential, shifted to a periphery,” said Putin while speaking to Russian officials in Moscow and added, “Russia will, however, neutralise the emerging threats.”

Highlights:

  • US on Thursday last activated a missile shield at Deveselu in southern Romania.
