China and Russia to hold ‘naval exercises’ at South China Sea

Beijing/Moscow: In a bid to buttress the cooperation between China and Russia, the countries have announced to hold ‘routine naval exercises’ in South China Sea in the month of September this year.

“The drills are primarily aimed at deepening the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries,” said spokesperson of China’s Defence Ministry Yang Yujun.

  • The exercises come amid heightened tension in the sea.
  • Criticizing the ‘environmental destruction’ by China, a Hague’s arbitration court this month ruled that China did not have historic rights to the contested waters.
  • Rejecting the court’s ruling, China refused to take part in the case.
