PM Modi Pens a Heartfelt Appreciation Note To Former India Skipper MS Dhoni

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated former India skipper MS Dhoni for his contribution to Indian cricket, Dhoni shared the letter on Twitter. Former India skipper MS Dhoni, who announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15. He has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acknowledging and appreciating his work.

In the letter, PM Modi lauded Dhoni's contribution towards Indian cricket and called the 2011 ICC World Cup-winning captain ‘a phenomenon’, whose impact went beyond the cricket field.

In addition, PM Modi praised MS Dhoni not only for his achievements, but also for his rise from humble beginnings. "But, the name Mahendra Singh Dhoni will not be remembered merely for his career statistics or specific match-winning roles. Looking at you as just a sportsperson would be injustice," PM Modi wrote in his two- page long letter. Also, "The correct way to assess your impact is as a phenomenon!" he wrote.

The wicketkeeper-batsman, who will soon be seen in action in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), took to Twitter to say: “An Artist, Soldier and Sportsperson what they crave for is appreciation, that their hard work and sacrifice is getting noticed and appreciated by everyone. Thanks PM @narendramodi for your appreciation and good wishes.”

However, Dhoni's last match in an India jersey was in the 2019 ICC World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. Furthermore, he will captain Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming Indian Premier League.
