Rio 2016: Indian boxer Manoj Kumar beats Lithuania’s Petrauskas

Rio de Janeiro: The fifth day of the Rio Olympics has brought a smile on the face of every Indians after boxer Manoj Kumar won entered the pre-quarter finals against Lithuanian boxer Petrauskas Evaldas.

It may be mentioned that Evaldas was a Bronze medallists in the 2012 London Games.

Kumar was leading since the first round and had got the favour of two judges while one of them was in the favour of Evaldas.

Though, he got a couple of punches but he maintained his lead in the second and the third round making his way into the pre-quarterfinals.

About Kumar:

  • He is the most experienced Indian boxer at Rio 2016 Olympics.
  • This is his second appearance at the Olympics.
  • He was awarded with the Arjuna Awardee in 2014.
  • Kumar had brought the Gold for India at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
