New York: Magnus Carlsen, the Norwegian chess grandmaster, on Thursday won the World Chess Championship for the third time in his career.
He achieved the feat on his 26 birth anniversary by defeating 26-year-old Russian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin.
He was poured with praises and love by his fans from across the globe for his victory.
Carlsen also received praises for his quick and aggressive moves in a series of tie-breakers.
Hungarian grandmaster Judit Polgar, who is considered the best ever female chess player, praised Carlsen for the quick game and said that the faster games are attracting more people to the game, including those who don’t even know it completely.
