Bhopal: Devendra Bundela, the captain of Madhya Pradesh, has set a record in the 83-year old Ranji Trophy Cricket history by becoming the most capped player in the premier national tournament.
He set the record when he appeared in his 137th Ranji match to lead his side against Baroda at Dharamshala on Tuesday. He surpassed former Mumbai captain Amol Mazumdar in the process.
Bundela,39, hailing from Ujjain, had made his Ranji debut as a 19-year old in 1995-96 and survived all these years serving his state side. He happens to be on the third spot after Waseem Jaffer and Amol Mazumdar in the list of players with most ranji aggregate.
Expressing a pleasant surprise over having survived two decade in the competitive cricket, the simpleton Bundela said he had no regrets despite having his quota of ups and downs during his Ranji career during which he amassed an aggregate of 9558 runs before Tuesday match.
