Lucknow: On the day when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi launched a joint campaign here, the Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav debunked the alliance and asked the party cadre to oppose it.
Talking to a leading news agency, Mulayam said that there was no need of any such pact in Uttar Pradesh and he won't campaign for the alliance. Slamming the Congress party, Mulayam said that the Sonia Gandhi-led party failed completely in past so many years and SP was capable enough to win the elections without any support.
Coming harsh on his CM son Akhilesh Yadav, the SP patriarch said that the alliance happened without his consent and also blamed him for jeopardising the chances of his own party members.
It may be mentioned that when Mulayam was SP President, he had turned down the decision of alliance with Congress after meeting with party poll strategist Prashant Kishore, fondly known as PK.
Meanwhile, soon after Mulayam's statement, SP spokesperson Juhi Singh said, "We understand and respect Netaji's feelings but SP and Congress are going to form government in Uttar Pradesh. We will keep requesting him to come and campaign."
