UP Vidhan Sabha security to be made impenetrable like Parliament

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha will now have impenetrable security arrangements along the lines of Indian Parliament. The decision to beef up the security was taken on Saturday, a day after PETN explosive was found inside the UP assembly, exposing a major security lapse.

The Yogi Adityanath government called Additional DGP, Agra, Ajay Anand, who has earlier served as IG/Director Lok Sabha Security, to prepare a proposal to make the Vidhan Sabha security impenetrable.

Later in the day, Anand reached here and took a survey of the current security of the house. He will now give a presentation about how the security of UP Vidhan Sabha can be strengthened on Sunday in presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and some government officials, including Chief Secretary Rajive Kumar, Principle Secretary, Home Arvind Kumar, Principle Secretary Secretariat Administration Mahesh Gupta, Principle Secretary Vidhan Sabha Pradeep Dube, DGP Sulkhan Singh, ADG Intelligence Bhavesh Kumar, ADG Security Vijay Kumar and a few other senior officials.

The recommendations Ajay Anand may make:

  • Modern equipment would be installed on every gate of Vidhan Sabha.
  • Metal detectors would be used even when no Vidhan Sabha session would be underway (Till now, metal detectors are only used during the UP Assembly sessions).
  • The frequency of the jammer installed inside the Vidhan Sabha would be enhanced.
  • Commandos and security personnel armed with modern and high-tech weapons would be posted (Secretariat has been opposing the deployment of union police force officers inside the building).
  • The entry of the legislators and government officials inside the assembly would be prohibited without carrying the bar-code smart card.
  • Anand may also recommend scrapping the use of temporary pass for entry inside the Vidhan Sabha.
  • Only government vehicles would be allowed inside the assembly premises.
