Lucknow: Shiv Sena (SS) will contest 200 seats in the coming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections without alliance with BJP, the senior party leader and MP Sanjay Raut said here on Wednesday.

The Shiv Sena plans to expand its base outside Maharashtra and will take UP polls as opportune time to take up the call, he told a press conference. Making it clear that SS wanted to have its legislators in UP assembly, he said that the party Supremo Uddhav Thackeray himself kick off the campaign from Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Claiming his party to be always sympathetic towards the natives of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the Shiv Sena member of Parliament said that his party had never opposed them in Maharashtra. ''We hope to receive support from UPites in the assembly elections on the same note,'' he pointed out.

Sanjay Raut said that SS would not have truck with Bharatiya Janata Party in Up assembly elections and fight the ruling samajwadi Party, Mayawayi-led Bahujan Samaj Party and BJP alike. '' Party believes that the next UP assembly will have at least 25 Shiv Sena members.'' he exuded confidence.

In reply to a question, he complimented Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for his pro-development approach but said the family rule and the character of the party would always be the sore point for the SP.

Raut was vocal against those who questioned the authenticity of surgical strike saying who spoke against it and favoured Pakistan should be charged with sedition.
