Lucknow: Following a sort of 'coup' in the party by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is off to New Delhi to meet the Election Commission officials, apparently to stake claim on the Cycle symbol of the party.
In view of the SP heading for a vertical split, the scramble for the party symbol is unavoidable and Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was replaced by Akhilesh in a sudden move at party convention, though declared 'unconstitutional' by the former, would not let it go so easily According to some party insiders , Mulayam is also mulling the idea to move to the Apex Court in the wake of Sunday developments.
Amar Singh, who was abroad while political drama in Uttar Pradesh unfolded, also joins Mulayam Singh Yadav in Delhi to make a representation before the Election Commission later in the day.
It was only on Friday , Mulayam had expelled CM Akhilesh from the party who, however, was quick to claim that the Samajwadi Party belonged to him. Similar statement was made by Mulayam when he was declared 'no more' the party President.
Meanwhile, the senior leaders of the party gathered at 5, Kali Das Marg , the official residence of CM Akhilesh Yadav, to discuss the issue of party symbol along with several other matters the party is faced with.
