Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government was at pains explaining the reason for shifting dreaded mafia turned politician Mukhtar Ansari from Agra to Lucknow jail and the subsequent transfer of Additional Director General (ADG) Jail, D S Chauhan.
“The decision to shift Ansari was taken by me after going through his medical records and in view of his deteriorating health conditions. Being the Jail minister of the state I own the responsibility,” said Walia at a press conference in Lucknow on Friday. Adding, ‘there was no political reason behind it.’

It may be mentioned that Ansari was shifted from Agra jail to Lucknow jail on Tuesday last after Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav announced the merger of Ansari’s Qaumi Ekta Dal (QED) into the Samajwadi Party.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had sought clarification
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has also asked for a report over the transfer of D S Chauhan.
Unsatisfactory reply on D S Chauhan transfer issue:
The jail minister said transfer of D S Chauhan was a routine and many other officers were transferred along with him. We should not pay much heed to this.
In a query over making B S Mukund, who is one of the accused in deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO) case, the jailor of Noida jail, the government said it was not aware about it.
