Gujarat to go to polls on Dec 9 and 14; counting on Dec 18

Gujarat: The Election Commission (EC), on Wednesday, said that the assembly elections in Gujarat will take place in two phases beginning from December 9. The counting of votes will take place on December 18.

The first phase election will take place on December 9 on 89 seats. The second phase polling will be held on December 14 on the remaining 93 seats.

Holding a press conference here, the Chief Election Commissioner, AK Jyoti said that the Model Code of Conduct comes into force in Gujarat on immediate basis.

What else AK Jyoti said?

  • VVPAT machines will be used in the polling.
  • 50,128 polling booths will be set up for a total of 4.33 crore voters.

The announcement comes 13 days after dates of voting and results for the hill state of Himachal Pradesh polls were declared earlier this month.

The term of the 182-member Gujarat assembly gets over on January 23 next year.
