Ahemadabad: The Election Commission (EC), on Wednesday, barred the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from using the word 'Pappu' in its election advertisement in poll bound Gujarat.

'Pappu' is apparently used for Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and it remained among top trends on Twitter on various occasions.

Speaking on the same, a senior BJP leader was quoted as saying, “Before making any election-related advertisement, we have to submit a script to the committee to get a certificate. However, they raised objection to the word ‘Pappu,’ saying it is derogatory. They asked us to remove or replace it.”

BJP, however, said that the word 'Pappu' used in the advertisement has no connection with Mr. Gandhi.

BJP said that it has appealed the election body to reconsider their decision but if it objects the advertisement anyhow, party will submit fresh script sans Pappu.

The two-phase polling in Gujarat will be held on December 9 and December 14 respectively.
