IT officials raid offices and residential premises of a UP chief engineer

Meerut (UP): In pursuance of anti-benami property drive, residential premises and offices of chief engineer of irrigation department of Uttar Pradesh , s k Sharma, who was posted here, were raided by income tax officials on Saturday and some discriminating documents seized. He was slated to retire by the end of the month.

In addition to his house in the district town, irrigation department offices in Noida and Ghaziabad were raided by the officials who were divided in ten groups.

The teams also conducted raids on offices of a contractor who was digging a canal for the department.

According to official sources ,in course of the raids , a large amount of cash and documents of properties worth Rs 100 crores owned by the contractor and his family members were seized.

The raiding party has also seized a large number of unaccounted jewelries from the contractor's house.

The chief engineer was the incharge of the irrigational project and was considered close to the contractor. More raids may be conducted after scrutiny of all the documents in their possession.
