Paris: With a rising prospect of another habitable world, scientists have announced to have discovered an Earth-sized planet which orbits the sun’s closest stellar neighbour.

The planet, named as Proxima-b, is situated in a temperate zone. Moreover, it is found to be compatible with life having the presence of water on it. Based on the data collected in 16 long years, the findings were published in the journal Nature on Wednesday.

“Finally, we have succeeded in showing that an earth-sized planet is orbiting the star closest to the solar system. It is most likely to be a rocky planet,” said Julien Morin, the journal’s co-author as well as an astrophysicist at the Université de Montpellier (Varsity of Montpellier) in France.
