• Her mount is a lion, representing power and courage.
• She is often shown seated on a lotus, hence also known as Padmasana.

The Legend of Maa Skandamata

According to legend, the demon Tarakasura was granted a boon by Lord Brahma that only Lord Shiva’s son could kill him. Empowered by this boon, Tarakasura began tormenting the gods and humans.

To end his tyranny, Goddess Parvati was born as the daughter of the Himalayas and later married Lord Shiva. Their son, Kartikeya (Skanda), was born to destroy Tarakasura. Maa Skandamata nurtured and prepared her son for battle, and Kartikeya eventually slew Tarakasura, freeing the gods from his cruelty.
