Update: 2016-07-05 17:56 GMT

New Delhi: The government on Tuesday refused to take action against Zakir Naik – a controversial Islamic preacher of India – who was consistently followed by one of the five Bangladeshi terrorists, who killed 20 hostages at a cafe in Dhaka.

“The government do not ban individuals but only organisations. Furthermore, there has not been any formal request from Bangladesh in this connection. We will see what best we can do if we receive a request from them,” said Minister of State for Home Kiren Rajju while talking to media persons.

Other highlights:

  • Naik is accused of urging all Muslims to become terrorists in his lectures.
  • According to a leading media house of Bangladesh, Dhaka attack militant Rohan Imtiaz ran propaganda on his Facebook profile last year, quoting Naik.
