Update: 2016-06-01 23:59 GMT

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday gave green light to a proposal that sought admissions for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in government medical colleges of the state through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Prior to the CM’s decision, it was not clear if the admissions would be done through NEET or Combined Pre-Medical Test (CPMT).

According to a notification issued by the central government last week, the state governments could conduct their own medical entrance exams or the admissions could be done through NEET.

Highlights:

  • The UP government’s decision was awaited since the notification was issued.
  • Admissions in Ayurvedic and Homeopathic colleges will be done through state level entrance examinations.
  • The CPMT examination fees will be refunded to the registered candidates.
