New Delhi: What smacks of an international racket, a website, being run from England, has been banned by Indian government after finding it illegal having duped scores of people from India and abroad.
The website www.copyright.in had been projecting itself as a government of India company which facilitates parties to get copyright in India. Persons from the field of literature, art, cinema, theatre and sound recording have become victim of the fraud and lost money to it in various ways.
An expert probe revealed that the company, which has shown its contact in England and claims to have access to copyrights in 164 countries, is fake and has nothing to do with the Government of India.
According to those who were engaged in the probe, the www.copyright.in has French partner namely Jonathan Marsiano and he had bought available domain names of the company from someone.
Meanwhile, the authorities apprehend that it is not easy to ban it totally because it may start its business by other name but the awareness among the people is very necessary in this regard. They said that the company also claims to guide parties by giving them business ideas in various countries.
The sources at Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) of Government of India said that such a company did not exist and those desirous of getting website registration should not interact or transact with it.
