Imphal: Two Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers were critically injured after three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) detonated in Manipur’s Kangpokpi town on Monday.
“While the BSF personnel were boarding a vehicle, three powerful bombs exploded almost three kilometers away from Kangpokpi,” said a senior police official.
The injured received a first aid by the doctors of Assam Rifles and were later referred to a hospital in the state capital. Subsequently, an IED weighing three kilograms was recovered by the security forces on a tip-off which, intelligence said, was to be used for attacking the BSF.
“The IED was recovered by a joint team of state police and 25 Assam Rifles while checking a public transport vehicle close to Tendongyan village,” confirmed police sources.
Other highlights:
- In the wake of the explosion, Manipur police as well as BSF personnel rushed to the spot and carried out a search operation but no arrests were made.
- The responsibility of the blasts has not been claimed by any outfit or individual yet.
