BMC to name Mumbai square after slain journalist Jyotirmoy Dey

Mumbai: A square, close to which noted journalist Jyotirmoy Dey was slain, in the capital of Maharashtra will be named after him.

Fulfilling a long-time pending demand of the city’s media fraternity, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will formally name the square after Dey in suburban Powai – situated in north-east Mumbai – on Wednesday next.

Other highlights:

  • Mayor Snehal Ambekar will unveil the J Dey Chowk’s plaque.
  • The square is located right across the road where Dey was gunned down.
  • The unveiling ceremony of the square will be followed by a memorial meeting.
  • Dey, who was known to be a brave journalist, often put his pen on the paper against the Underworld.
  • The 56-year-old scribe worked with many leading publications.
