Rampur: Expressing disgust over the order of establishing the idol of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya at the Ambedkar Park here, firebrand Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan on Friday threatened to move Supreme Court against the decision.

"I would not shy away from knocking at the Supreme Court's door against the District Magistrate of Rampur over the controversial order of setting up an idol of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya at the Ambedkar Park here," asserted Azam Khan, while interacting with the media persons.

It is worth mentioning that on Thursday Azam had visited the place where a pit was dug for the setting up of the idol. Incidentally, the pit has been filled with mud.

"As per the Supreme Court's order, no idols can be set up within 200 meters from a national highway. Even Allahabad High Court has also stayed setting up of any statues as well as a gate at the venue," he added.

He further pointed out that after the Allahabad HC's order, the previous Samajwadi Party government had stalled the work. "Still the DM has ordered to set up the idol there. He is now saying that he wasn’t aware of the court’s order. I wonder how could a DM not be aware of the court’s order. This order is not only for Rampur but for the entire country."
